The story “Becky and the Wheels and Brake Boys” is written by James Berry. It is about a girl named Becky that wants a bike, but her mom disagrees with that idea. Becky is a credible character because of how she acts, how she feels, and what she says. Character credibility is when a character in the story is acting like a real person would act.
First of all, Becky is credible because she begs her mom for what she wants, a bike. As Becky says, “Over and over I told my mom I wanted a bike.” She really wants a bike more than anything, so she pleads to her mom. This provides that Becky is a realistic character because a lot of kids bug their parents for what they want.
Secondly, Becky is a believable character because she fought with her friend and got angry with her. Becky thinks to herself, “For the first time Shirnette and me had a real fight because of what I hated most.” She was mad at her best friend because Shirnette let a cockroach fly down Becky’s blouse. She is credible because friends frequently fight with each other.
The third reason why Becky is credible is because she asks for some help to learn how to ride a bike. Becky asks The Wheel and Brake Boys. “Can somebody teach me to ride?” Becky doesn’t have a bike because in her neighborhood girls aren’t encouraged to ride them. She wants to be a part of the group, so she asks the boys to teach her a new skill. Becky stands up for what she wants just like any kid would.
In conclusion, Becky’s actions, her emotions, and her words that proves she is a credible character. You may even know somebody like Becky that is in your neighborhood.

Chapter 8
An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today, where a person's desires go against society's expectations
What situation did you imagine?
In the situation you imagined, should the person follow his or her dreams or should they follow society's rules? Give your opinion.
The situation i imagined is that if a male wants to be a hair designer then he can, and you should respect that. Just because a male wants to be a hair designer doesn't mean he is considered gay just because he likes to work on people's hair... Just like my hair designer he is a guy and I actually think that a guy hair specialist is better than the girl hair stylist when I got my hair done. Like right now I got my hair in layers 2 times and the first time was a girl that did it for me and I didn't like it at all, then when a guy did it for me i actually loved it.So yeah, I think it's wrong.
